Making a FOIA Request

The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) was enacted in 1966 to allow individual citizens to request access to government records. Many documents concerning the activities of the Offices of the United States Attorneys is available in the FOIA Library without a Freedom of Information Act request.

How to make a FOIA or privacy act Request

• You can visit https://eousafoia.usdoj.gov/ to submit a request to the Executive Office for United States Attorneys, which processes requests for any of the 94 USAOs or EOUSA.

Are we the right FOIA Office for your request?

• If you think your records are held by any of the 94 USAOs or EOUSA, submit your request to us. If you think your records are held by other offices in the Department of Justice, please visit the Office of Information Policy’s list of Department of Justice FOIA Contacts to determine where you should submit your request.

Multitrack processing
When you make a FOIA request, it can be placed in one of three tracks:

• Track One: requests expedited in accordance with subsection (a)(6)(E) of the FOIA
• Track Two: requests which do not involve voluminous records or lengthy consultation with other entities are placed in track two.
• Track Three: requests which involve voluminous records and for which lengthy or numerous consultations are required, or involve sensitive records
